To start the New Year right!
Excellent stay at the Blockade Runner for the New Year package. Great pig picking and Low Country Boil with lots of side options and desserts. Social distancing observed with good use of indoor and outside seating. Beautiful grounds and easy walk to beach. Everything you need on site and easy walk to local shops and grocery. We also did another night sunset cruise which was beautiful! Room very clean with nice view of beach.
Boat Cruise
I have gone on two boat cruises through the Blockade Runner. One was a brewery cruise and one was the sunset/holiday lights cruise. The staff is professional, fun, and kind throughout the whole trip. During the hour cruise we saw a beautiful sunset, dolphins, and views of the intracoastal. I would absolutely recommend going on this trip with family and friends!
Wonderful getaway with extremely friendly and helpful staff.
We booked an oceanfront room with a full balcony. Thoroughly enjoyed the privacy. The rooms facing the sound/harbor overlooked the parking lot. Our package came with breakfast in bed. It was gourmet and abundant. We did have a minor issue with the room temperature in that it was Thanksgiving Weekend and turning slightly cooler at night. You cannot control your heat until the facility turns it on. On the 3rd night we finally had heat. We also had a few meals at the restaurant, including Thanksgiving dinner. Well presented. The wait staff seemed a little too busy and distracted though. Excellent entertainment was offered and a harbor cruise. Wonderful experience all in all.
Thanksgiving Meal 2020
This was the third Thanksgiving meal our family has attended at the Blockade Runner and although COVID-19 has changed things drastically the quality of food and atmosphere should not have suffered. In years past, the buffet meals have always been $50 and incredibly good!! In order to keep everyone safe this year, there was a menu and tables were separated. We ordered our prime ribs medium rare and all were solid red. I have never seen such a bloody piece of meat except when skinning a deer. When I mentioned it to the wait staff, I was informed that all the steaks were cooked at a base level of medium rare. I could've asked for them to be cooked longer, but instead I took them home to finish cooking myself. The pumpkin soup was very bland, the salad and shrimp cocktail were great and the desserts were mediocre. This was completely different than years past. The dinning room was comical. We sat at an extremely small and wobbly table for two in the corner and admired the complete lack of atmosphere; vanilla! I would recommend that anyone interested in eating at Blockade Runner wait until COVID-19 has ended.
Not as Advertised
We chose one of the staterooms based on the description. Our most desired feature was the fireplace on the balcony. But it was very disappointing. We couldn't determine how to turn it on. When we inquired we found that you have to request someone to come and put gel in it. So we asked for that. Someone came and added gel; the fire burned for 3 minutes and went out. We called again. More gel this time, burned 15 minutes. The flames reached a height of 2 inches. The fireplace is tiny and so high on the wall that you can't see the flames when you sit down. Heat output is practically zero. Never bothered with it for the rest of our stay. I would call this deceptive advertising.
